The Importance of Women in Manufacturing

Since its National Manufacturing Month we wanted to talk a little bit about women in manufacturing. As a woman-owned business this is something very close to us and recently a new survey by Women in Manufacturing found that 74% of women working in manufacturing believe that the industry offers multiple career paths and 64% would recommend a career in manufacturing to another woman.

Additionally a study from the Joint Economic Committee from last year suggests that manufactures should consider hiring more women as the sector continues to grow and to help fill jobs created by the skills gap. To help encourage more women get involved in the manufacturing sector, groups like the STEM Equity Pipeline which holds educational events, tours at manufacturing plants, and conferences to help advance women in manufacturing.

At Honor Med Maskiner our President Patricia Hirsch is currently in the process of becoming a certified Woman Owned Business and has experienced the challenges and rewards of a career in manufacturing and was interviewed by Lisa Singer on the Women’s Radio Network in July about starting her career, the benefits of women in manufacturing, and how to thrive in the sector.
